Times2

What is Times2?

Times2 is a special academic enrichment designed to increase the number of African American, Latino and Native American Students interested in and qualified to pursue careers in math, science and engineering.

Students are offered a variety of academic enhancement activities to complement and enrich their skills primarily in the content areas of math, science, and English. In addition, Times2 students attend numerous field trips to museums, educational institutions and industrial sites, where they are exposed to practicing professionals, hands-on workshops, demonstrations, and lectures. They are able to investigate technical careers and interface with people that work in them.

Students also benefit from a solid partnership that Times2 has with the University of Rhode Island which co-sponsors a five week summer program and two Oceanography programs. In these, as well as in many Times2 offerings, the curriculum is designed to emphasize the practical application of knowledge. Each Times2 school is given an annual budget that is used to offer opportunities and experiences not available to the general school population. Our students, therefore, graduate from high school having completed a unique course of study, in which they were encouraged, advised, exposed, and expected to excel to a far greater extent that the non-Times2 student.
