Check out the Newport Polar Bears - Are you looking for something to do on a Sunday, at noon, during the winter and still have time to get somewhere and watch the football games and when they are over what else is there to do?

The Newport Polar Bears (a rather loose knit group) are winter (brrrr) swimmers at Easton's Beach in Newport, RI. Every Sunday, at NOON sharp, there are anywhere from 4 to 12 of us nuts that go for a dip into the Atlantic Ocean.

Come join us, because no matter what the weather, we still go for a swim.
Now you may ask, is it cold, let me tell you there have been some bad days!
But right now some of the nicest swimming water is available. So you couch
potatoes, male or female, get up, grab your bathing suit and a towel                      (no wet suits allowed).
Try something really different, come on down to Easton's Beach in
Newport and jump in the ocean. We do have a place to change......

Taking the Plunge for Kathleen!

Kathleen’s wish is to go to Disney World. A Wish Come True has been putting the plans together to send Kathleen, age 5, who lives in Middletown along with her family parents, Margaret & John and 2 brothers - Michael & Stephen. Kathleen is currently in treatment for ALL (cancer)

Kathleen's wish to meet "Mickey & Minnie Mouse" will come true in May thanks to the Newport Polar Bears, Miss RI USA Amy Diaz and the hundreds who participate in the “plunge” on January 1st (New Years Day) at Easton’s Beach in Newport.

A Wish Come True, Inc. is Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts’ oldest wish-granting organization. Celebrating 25 years of granting wishes - founded in 1982 in Tiverton, RI. A Wish Come True granted 12 wishes its first year and now averaging 70 to 80 wishes a year to children ages 3 to 19 who are suffering with life threatening illnesses.  A Wish Come True receives no funding from national organizations, relying on the local community and events such as the Polar Bears Plunge for support.
