A Call To Investigate Scholarly Corruption At Our University

We, the undersigned members of the Princeton family, wish to express our concern at the recent elevation of Professor Heath Lowry to the position of a named chair at our University. The available evidence strongly suggests that far from being an independent and objective scholar, he has in fact worked on behalf of the Turkish government to discredit legitimate scholarship about the Armenian Genocide. If Princeton is to maintain its reputation for acting in the nation's and the world's service, it must distance itself from such efforts and promote bona fide research into historical events, so that the world may learn from them.

Therefore, we urge that an investigation be initiated, conducted by credible individuals unconnected with the original appointment, to verify the facts of the case and, should the situation prove to be as it appears, determine the circumstances leading to it, recommend practicable remedies for it, and design procedures to prevent its reoccurrence.
