Dear Mr Kaligian,
Thank you for writing to share with me your serious concerns about remarks made by Princeton Professor Norman Itzkowitz. I understand the outrage of those who found his reported remarks to be highly offensive.
As a member of the Princeton University Board of Trustees, I recognize my responsibility to help ensure that the institution maintains its high standards for academic and ethical integrity. While I understand that Professor Itzkowitz has expressed regret that his comments were apparently misunderstood and failed to make the point he had intended to make, I remain deeply concerned about the insensitivity to horrific human suffering his remarks seemed to convey. I am asking Princeton University President Harold T. Shapiro to respond to you directly with respect to this very serious matter.
Again, thank you for writing to bring your concerns to my attention. Best wishes.
Sincerely yours,
Christine Todd Whitman
Governor
